The tulip fields in the Bollenstreek region (the strip between the cities of Leiden and Haarlem) are some of the most famous and visited in The Netherlands. This area, which is also known as the flower bulb region or the flower strip is located only 40 kilometers away from Amsterdam, and it's home to acres upon acres of colorful tulips.

Step 2: from Voorhout to Sassenheim = 4.1 km. Step 3: from Sassenheim to Lisse = 5.4 km. Step 4: from Lisse to Hillegom = 5.7 km. Good to know: the bike rental shop at Keukenhof will provide you with a complete itinerary as well as tips depending of the state of the fields during your trip.

For those of you that want to come by train I would advise you to take the train to Hillegom and from there it's only 15 minutes walking until you stumble upon the first bulb field. It's the perfect 1 day trip if you are staying in Amsterdam for a couple of days since it's only 30 km away!So have fun, enjoy the colours but be careful not to destroy any of it's beauty!

The best time to go see the tulip fields in the Netherlands would be in the month of April. March is a bit too early, even the last week of March. Usually, that's when the daffodils are still peaking out. Sometimes the first week of April can still be too early, but sometimes not.

Well, it is actually easy to walk from the fields of Lisse to the Hillegom Tulip fields. However, initially I had no idea how far these two places are. So, I caught Bus #50 from Bus stop Lisse, Meer en Duin and rode only 4 minutes (2 stops) to Hillegom, Wilsonweg.
